Our Commitment

Joystick was opened with the word "community" in mind. Initially, this meant opening a place that fostered conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. We love the social aspect of classic arcade games and we think a well-crafted cocktail, a unique spirit, or an expertly brewed beer can be a conversation starter. These ideas were the starting point for us as Joystick Gamebar began to take shape. Our continuing goal is for Joystick to be the lovechild between the best aspects of going out and the best aspects of hanging out at your friend's house.

But being as driven by community as we aim to be, we realized quickly that we needed to look beyond our own walls. So we partnered with non-profits and community aid organizations to help make what little difference we can for Atlanta and its residents. The response we have gotten for our charitable events has warmed the cockles of our heart. (Heh. “Cockles.”) We love our Joystick community -- they constantly inspire us. As we continue to create ways of giving back, please get in touch with us if you have an idea to help us expand our outreach.

Here's a sample of what we've done in the past...

  • Dance Party for Trinity House (housing, rehabilitating, and reintegrating homeless recovering addicts)
  • Match Game game show night for Big Bethel Saturday School (helping tutor and feed Atlanta's children in need)
  • Prize Wheel Can & Coat Drive for Atlanta Recovery Center (housing and assisting downtown Atlanta's homeless)
  • Life Day Celebration - it's a Star Wars thing - for Genesis Shelter (taking in homeless infants and their families)
  • Indoor Picnic for Peachtree N.O.R.M.L. (advocating for local reform in marijuana laws)
  • Pinball Tournament for Susan G. Komen for the Cure (working to end breast cancer)
  • Last Call Bartending Competition for The Giving Kitchen (providing crisis grants for Atlanta's restaurant community)

We'd also like to give a Thank You to the following who have helped make these events possible...

  • Councilman Kwanza Hall's office
  • 501st Georgia Garrison
  • Yelp's Atlanta Community Manager, Ben Getz
  • Our resident DJ, black Sunshine
  • The hilarious and giving Amber Nash
  • Coctelera Extraordinaire, the universally loved Paige Lane
  • Pinball Wizard and Dreamer of a Better World, Dee Rockin'
  • And, of course, the tirelessly brilliant crew at Joystick. Ain’t no staff like a Joystick staff cuz a Joystick staff don’t… HA! We said “Joystick staff.”
